Captain America in France

Item: Le Retour De Captain America French Trade Paperback
Year: 2005
Company: Panini

Comments: When Mark Waid and Ron Garney returned to the Captain America comic for a 2nd time after the, ahem, painful HEROES REBORN fiasco in the late 1990s, they came back with full force. The first few issues showed that Garney's art had tighten up and wasn't all over the place like in his first run (still good but a mish-mash of styles). Not waiting for Marvel to pull the rug from under him again, Garney eventually moved over to the SENTINEL OF LIBERTY title after dropping out from the regular title (Volume 3). Waid stayed on and Andy Kubert came on as the artist before both eventually moved on.

In America, those first few issues of Volume 3 were collected into the trade "To Serve and Protect" but they never got to the Kubert issues. Only recently is that work being published. However, that wasn't the case in France with Marvel's European publisher, Panini. This trade is smaller in size than most American trades but runs much deeper in pages. Not only does it get through the Garney issues but just starts the Kubert run. And all in color too.
