Comments: Written by Tony Isabella and Bob Ingersoll, Liberty's Torch was part of a series of Marvel Super Hero novels launched in the late 1990s. Sadly, this is the only one for Captain America. Mike Zeck and Bob McLeod do the chapter art and the cover features recycled Jim Steranko art knocked out on a reflective foil backing.

Item: Stan Lee Presents Captain America Battles Baron Blood! Pocketbook

Comments: Three years since the apparent last pocketbook, Marvel tries it again without Pocket Book's involvement. Reprinted is Roger Stern and John Byrne's great two part Baron Blood story from the end of 1980. Also, as a bonus, is including CAPTAIN AMERICA #250 where Cap entertains a presidential run. Not in color but the black and white lets one enjoy Byrne's art even more. However, the panels are re-arranged to about 2-3 a page. Bob Larkin paints the cover over the image originally created by John Byrne.

Comments: Hot on the heals of the "Holocaust for Hire" book, Pocket Books released this collection of reprinted 1960s Cap stories shrunk down in size but all in full color. AVENGERS #4 is there along with several Tales of Suspense stories. No dedication but "Inspiration by Stan Lee".

Comments: I think this is the second ever Cap pocketbook to come out (the 3rd a month later). I read it when I was a kid but that was years ago. It has the Red Skull and Nick Fury. Written by Joseph Silva, edited by Marv Wolfman and Len Wein, cover art by Dave Cockrum. "Dedicated to the Ford Motor Company". Okay, now Joe AND Stan and Jack are being slighted!! lol

Comments: I still have to read this one but I've been told there were a few tweaks to Cap here and there. Ted White wrote the novel, Stan Lee did the intro, and the dedication reads, "To Jack Kirby and Stan Lee....without whom there would be no Captain America." So much for Joe Simon, the guy who created the idea first, eh? This was the first of a few Cap pocketbooks to be sporadically released over the years.
