Cap in the UK: Alan Class Comics
More Captain America comics from the UK. I previously posted MYSTIC #55 from 1965 which featured a reprint of AVENGERS #4 and questioned if the publisher, L. Miller & Co., was related to Alan Class. The books in this post are most definitely Alan Class books, which reprint Marvel, DC, and other American stories in the 1960s and early 1970s. Unfortunately, these books never list the year they were printed.
Above is the Alan Class reprint of the classic AVENGERS #56, "Death By Not Proud", one of my favorite Avengers and Cap stories where Cap goes back in time to try and stop the "death" of Bucky. ASTOUNDING STORIES #63 is the vehicle for this classic Cap story. Like the Mystic book, these books are shorter, wider, thicker, and an English pound gets you a thicker than normal book in glorious black and white.
As far as I can tell, the Alan Class books were never consistent with their content. The Avengers run was spread out throughout several titles and never limited to one. And they were just the Avengers run and not the regular Cap book or Tales of Suspense. I could be wrong on this but I have yet to uncover an issue on an Alan Class book from these other runs. However, you did find them in their own pence UK copies of those titles (another future post).
Above: AMAZING STORIES OF SUSPENSE #99 featuring another Avengers story.
Above: CREEPY WORLDS #123 with the classic Roy Thomas story where the Avengers meet the Invaders.
Above: UNCANNY TALES #65. More Avengers reprints.
